Frequently Asked Questions…

What is Di-NOC and why is it special?
Di-NOC is a conformable vinyl that can be installed on flat and curved surfaces. For automotive applications, there are hundreds of styles to choose from. Di-NOC is designed with wrapping complex curved surfaces in mind. This means styles like dry carbon and OEM-style-textured black are now possible to wrap. Previously, specialty vinyls like this were foil-based, and were incapable of being heated and stretched to conform to curves.

What other finishes are there in the Di-NOC Range?
The finishes are broken down into several categories most common for automotive applications.
Matte/Dry Carbon- Black, Silver, White, Brown, Tan, Gray. Black is the most realistic, and closest to real dry carbon.
Woods- Nearly 200 samples to choose from.
Suede/Leater- charcoal suede. red, white, brown, black leather- soft and hard. Over 20 styles to choose from.
Marbles/Granite/Stone- Various shades and styles of popular marbles and granite patterns.
Solid Colors- Please inquire. For single colors we normally use other 3M vinyls. However, there are several solid colors that many customers like.

What makes it stick?
It features 3M's Controltac™ Plus Graphic Film with Comply™ Performance.
That is 3M's fancy speak for the sticky backing with the "X" pattern. The adhesive is designed to be used in wrap applications and is able to be lifted and repositioned until the proper look is achieved. The cross pattern helps in working out air bubbles, providing you with a channel. Once pressure and heat are applied, you're done.

How much do I need?
Measure your piece with either a string, or fabric tape measure. Lay the string/tape across the curves and contours. Be sure to measure from the widest and longest points. Round up to the nearest foot.
We recommend at least 3"-4" of excess on each edge. This will give you enough excess material to handle while applying, as well as excess to wrap behind any panel edges.

Tools?
Broken down, here is everything you need.
Heat Source: We like to use a salon hair dryer. It can blister skin if careless, but not vinyl or paint. Heat guns work well, but require more care.
Razor Blade: Fresh X-Acto blades are the most cost effective, assuming you have the handle. Otherwise, any fresh razor will work.
Squeegee: Squeegees are used to remove air bubbles and smooth out viny. We recommend wrapping it with the cut-off sleeve of a t-shirt. This is to protect the vinyl from scratches while applying. Use the hard edge to find edges and to tuck vinyl into any crevices.
Primer 94: This is a liquid adhesive promoter and edge sealer. Using a foam brush, it is applied to complex curves, or exposed edges.

Note: We offer all the necessary tools for a DIY installation, excluding a heat source.

Weather?
3M Di-NOC is a wide range of vinyl films. It ranges from carbon to faux-leater. Some are obviously not designed for exterior application.
Ones that are have been designed for a 3-5 year exterior lifespan. This means it will resist fading during this time. Depending on climate, vehicle storage, etc- your results will vary.
Weather can not penetrate the vinyl surface. If the surface it's applied to is porous, or the edges are not sealed correctly- moisture may seep under and cause lifting.
Sunlight will never cause failure of adhesive and cause peeling/lifing- even on the blackest car on the hottest day.

Engine Heat?
3M states 28 days at 150 degrees F, nearly zero change to adhesion and/or film appearance.
What this means: Most engine bay and motorcycle parts that users wish to wrap do not reach an average temperature over 150F degrees. To put in perspective the temperature, 130F is the point where sink burns in under 2 seconds.

Cleaning?
We recommend baby shampoo, the no-tears kind, and a soft cloth.

Rock Chips?
Vinyl, especially the Di-NOC is quite resilient to scuffs and scratches, however- it is not bulletproof. A stray rock at 65MPH may leave a mark.

Warranty?
Please note that the goods/services you are about to purchase do not have any warranty and can not be returned under any condition. You are buying and/or selling at your own risk without recourse. Shipping?
US Shipping is flat rate, due to the use of 50" shipping tubes.
We will ship international, please inquire.
All vinyl is packed in shipping tubes- ensuring safe delivery.
All other items are shipped in a second box.
Please Note: Primer94 must be shipped via ground service only, and can not be shipped internationally.

I see dry carbon fiber fabric for $35 a sq/yd, or similar, is that the same product?
No. That is the FABRIC carbon fiber, not the Di-NOC vinyl carbon fiber. It is interior only. There is no adhesive backing.
Fabric is not designed for wrap applications; It is constantly trying to return to it’s original shape. It is working against the spray glue all times. Vinyl that is heated for a short amount of time with a heat gun will change shape. Your VINLY wrap job will stay put.
